E. Allene Schubert    (1928 - 2010)

SHERWOOD - E. Allene Schubert, 81, of Sherwood, and a winter resident of Eustis, Florida, died Saturday, February 20, 2010, in Florida Hospital-Waterman, Tavares, Florida.

Allene was born August 10, 1928, in Churubusco, Indiana, the daughter of Howard and Pauline (Shreve) Osmon. She was a 1946 graduate of Defiance High School. Allene married Alvin C. Schubert on November 7, 1953, in Defiance, Ohio. Allene began her working career at the Zeller Corporation. She had also worked for Syncro STM and retired from a love of providing child care. She was a member of the Sherwood United Methodist Church and the Mission Society there. She was a charter member and den mother for Sherwood Cub Scout Pack 139. While in Florida, Allene attended the First Presbyterian Church of Mount Dora where she served on various committees.

Surviving are her husband, Alvin C. of Sherwood; daughter, Kathleen (Ronald) Cline of Mark Center, Ohio; two sons, Eugene "Gene" (Barbara) Schubert of Ney, Ohio, and Fred (Cathie) of Sherwood; daughter-in-law, Fran Schubert of Broomfield, Colorado; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold (Dorothy) Osmon of Defiance.

Her parents and one son, Paul Michael Schubert, preceded her in death.

Funeral services for E. Allene Schubert will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 26, 2010, in the Sherwood United Methodist Church, 512 North Harrison Street, Sherwood, with Pastor Kevin Doseck officiating. Interment will follow in Riverview Memory Gardens, rural Defiance. Relatives and friends of E. Allene Schubert will be received in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 230 East Elm Street, Sherwood, Ohio, on Thursday, February 25, 2010, from 2-8 p.m. Friends may also visit one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.

Howard (PeeWee) Wolfrum    (1935-2009)

 

SHERWOOD - Howard (PeeWee) Wolfrum, 74, of Sherwood, Ohio died on Friday November 27, 2009 at Community Memorial Hospital – Hicksville, Ohio.
He was born on February 20, 1935 in Defiance County, Ohio the son of Ervin and Olive (Stuckey) Wolfrum.

He was a 1953 graduate of Mark Center High School.

On November 25, 1956 in was united in marriage with Barbara Agler.

He was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1957 – 1959 playing baseball on the traveling team for Ft. Sam Houston.

He was a faithful and active member of Mark Center United Methodist Church.

He was a lifetime farmer and recently restored and showed his 1952 Farmall “M”; he was an active member of Fountain City Squares – square dance club; a dedicated St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan; and enjoyed time with his family.

He is survived by his wife Barbara; a son Rolland (Gina) – Hicksville, OH; two daughters Colleen Welker – Marysville, OH and Kim (Mike) Martin – Green Springs, OH; (6) grandsons: Trevor, Ethan, Brandon, Joshua, Justin, and Jared; two brothers: Robert (Barbara) – VanWert, OH and Eugene (Imogene) – Hicksville, OH; a sister: Virginia (Max) Haver – Sherwood, OH.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son Gregory.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 10:00 at Smith & Brown Funeral Home – Hicksville, Ohio with Rev. Jim Spears officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 2:00 – 8:00 at the funeral home and after 9:00 on Tuesday.

Burial will be at Forest Home Cemetery – Hicksville with military honors accorded by Sherwood VFW Post 5665.

Adelaide Bernice Fisher Eatwell    (1917 - 2009)

 

SHERWOOD - Adelaide Bernice Fisher Eatwell, 92 years, of Sherwood, died Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Brookview Healthcare Center, Defiance, where she had been a resident since May 2007.

 

Adelaide was born on May 22, 1917 in Roland, Iowa, the daughter of Peter O. and Lizzie (Lein) Durby. She was a 1935 graduate of Nevada High School in Nevada, Iowa. She married Arlo Fisher on May 20, 1935 and he preceded her in death on June 6, 1972. She then married Lawrence John Eatwell on January 29, 1984, and he preceded her in death on June 11, 2007. Adelaide was a supply coordinator for Dana Weatherhead for 30 years, retiring in 1981.

 
Surviving are her children, Harlan (Paula) Fisher of Lago Vista,Texas, Arlo (Connie) Fisher of Shelby, North Carolina, Kevin (Sara) Fisher of King Mountain, North Carolina, Bradley Fisher of Nevada, Iowa, Lyle (Rose Marie) Fisher of Wilmington, North Carolina, Brenda ( John) English of Bryan and Nancy (James) Speiser of Defiance. 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Myers of Nevada, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, Arlo Fisher and Lawrence Eatwell, son Spencer Fisher, one grandchild, one brother, Wallace Durby and one sister, Lorraine Mynatt.

Funeral services for Adelaide Bernice Fisher Eatwell will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 17, 2009 in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home 230 East Elm Street, Sherwood, Ohio with Pastor Ned Speiser officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday in the funeral home.

Joseph M. Jacob     (1959 - 2009)

Joseph M. Jacob, 49, of Defiance and formerly of Greenwood, S.C. and Sherwood, Oh. passed away at 6:33 P:M , Monday, August 24th, 2009 at his residence.

He was born in Defiance, on December 13, 1959, he was the son of the late Francis and Dolores (Wonderly) Jacob who survives him of Sherwood.

On July 19, 2002, he married Rebecca (Felger) Jacob and she survives.

He worked as a machinist at Eaton Hydraulics in Greenwood, S.C.since 2004. Hehad worked at Dietrich Industries in Hicksville for over 25 years. He was a member of the Bryan Eagles and a 1978 graduate of Fairview High School. Joe was a fan of the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and Ohio State. He was also an avid cook.

Besides his wife and mother, surviving are Daughters: Erin (Jared) Grime of Defiance, Laura (David) Culver of Bryan, Audrey English of Greenwood, S.C., Larissa English of Greenwood S.C., Sana English of Defiance. Sons: Shawn English of Massachusetts, Eric Jacob of Fayette, Oh., Nathaniel English of Defiance, Sisters: Michele (Jack) Speiser of Defiance, Patricia (James) Guisinger of Demotte, In., Jill (Robert) Brown of Hicksville, Brothers: John (Margaret) Jacob of Defiance, David Jacob of Cecil, , James (Christine) Jacob of Sherwood, Michael (Tonya) Jacob of Coshocton, Oh.

He is survived by 7 grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his father Francis Jacob, a son Randall Jacob and a brother Robert Jacob.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Isidore's at Delaware Bend at 11:00 A:M on Friday, August 28th, with Father Robert Kill officiating.

Friends are invited to call Thursday 10-8 and Friday 9-10:30 A:M at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home 1753 S. Clinton St. Defiance, Oh. where there will be a rosary service at 8:00 P:M Thursday.

Burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery.

Philip C. "Charlie" Wagner    (1971 - 2009)

 

SHERWOOD - Philip C. "Charlie" Wagner, 38, Sherwood, died unexpectedly on August 13, 2009.

Born on January 15, 1971, in Akron, to Philip T. and Diana Kim (Vo) Wagner, he was a resident of Sherwood for five years, previously of Doylestown. Philip was employed by Nemco Med Co. and enjoyed farming with Slicker Farms in both Canal Fulton and Sherwood.

Philip is survived by his sons, Philip T. and Mitchell F.; daughter, Mercedes K.; mother, Diana Kim Wagner and brother, Thomas H. Wagner, both of Clinton; grandmother, Betty Wagner of Doylestown; grandmother, Phan Thi Lieu of Vietnam; former wife, Jodie Wagner; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Philip T. Wagner; grandfather, Philip F. Wagner; and grandfather, Vo Van Nguyen.

Funeral service will be Friday, August 21, 2009, at 5 p.m. at the Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, 132 N. Portage St., Doylestown, with Pastor Minh Dang officiating. A private burial will be held later. The family will receive friends after the service from 6-9 p.m.

Elwood E. Mohley    (1929 - 2009)

 

Elwood E. Mohley, 98 years, of Battle Creek, Michigan, and a former longtime resident of Sherwood, Ohio, died Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Heartland Rehab at Battle Creek, Michigan. Elwood was born on February 1, 1911 in Sherwood, the son of Emil H. and Ada (Miller) Mohley. He was a 1929 graduate of Sherwood High School and he attended Defiance College. Elwood married Mary Kathryn Yeagley on October 22, 1937 in the Ney United Methodist Church. Elwood began working for his father Emil at the Bee Hive Grocery in Sherwood until his father died in 1943. He then managed the store until he purchased it in 1946. He owned and operated the store until he sold the business to Gerald Wirth in 1972. He was a member of the Sherwood United Methodist Church, the former Sherwood Masonic Lodge, where he obtained lifetime membership in 2007. He also was active in the community, serving on the Sherwood Village Council. He was an original shareholder of the Sherwood State Bank, where he also served on the Board of Directors, retiring as Chairman of the Board in 1991.


Preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Barbara Linn Mohley, two sisters, Lelah Mohley Saunders and Dorothy Mohley Avey and one brother, Melbern Mohley, Elwood is survived by his wife of 72 years, Mary Kathryn of Battle Creek, Michigan; two daughters, Cynthia (Robert) Mohley Leach of Battle Creek, Michigan and Nancy Mohley Agler of Oak Forest, Illinois; three grandchildren, Troy W. (Roxana) Agler of Midlothian, IL, Todd A. Leach of Baltimore, MD., and Tanya L. Leach of New York City; one great-granddaughter, Ariana B. Agler.

Funeral services for Elwood E. Mohley will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2009, at the Sherwood United Methodist Church, 512 North Harrison Street, Sherwood, with Pastor Kevin Doseck officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Cemetery. Albert W. Baden    (1916 - 2009)

 

Albert W. Baden, 92, passed away at 2:45pm Thursday, July 23, 2009 peacefully with his family surrounding him in the Defiance Regional Medical Center, Defiance.

He was born in Sherwood, Ohio on December 9, 1916. He was the son of Henry and Olga (Heisler) Baden.

June 1, 1947, he married M. Charlotte West, who passed away October 7, 2007.

He is survived by three daughters; Rebecca (Robert) Albertson, Defiance, Susan (William) Essman, Angola, Indiana, Julie (Gregory) Seibert, Defiance, a son, Stephen (Janet) Baden, Sherwood. He is also survived by ten grandchildren; Bethanne (Jeff) Woodbury, Defiance, Melissa (William) Turner, Bryan, Christopher Tawney, St. Petersburg, Florida, Kylee Seibert, Cincinnati, Kaitlyn Seibert, Bowling Green, Joe Essman, Angola, Indiana, Jordan Essman, Angola, Indiana, Max Essman, Angola, Indiana, Prudence Miller, Sherwood, Anessa Davis, Dublin, and eight great grandchildren; Brittany Ely, Bryan, Will Turner, Bryan, Tyler and Emily Woodbury, Defiance, Leigh and Dustin Turner, Omaha, Nebraska, one niece, Arlene (Richard) Carse, New Braunfels, Texas. Three nephews; Mark Baden, Sherwood; Ted Brubaker, Bellevue, Tom Brubaker, Napoleon.

Preceding him in death were his parents, infant daughter, Mary Olga, and brother, Leo Baden.

He served in the Army for four and a half years and was a World War II Veteran. When he came home from the service, he engaged in farming with his brother. He worked as a salesman for Decker Chevrolet in Defiance. He retired as a security guard from Weatherhead in Antwerp, Ohio.

He graduated from Sherwood-Delaware High School in 1935. He was an avid golfer and bowler, talents that he gladly passed down to his children and grandchildren. He proudly attended all of their sporting events and various activities.

He was proud to be a charter member of the Sherwood VFW for more than 60 years. He was a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church, Sherwood.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at St. John Lutheran Church on Openlander Road, Sherwood at 1:00pm on Monday July 27. Visitation will be held one hour before the service.

Military rites will be performed at the Sherwood Cemetery immediately following the service.

A luncheon will be served at the Sherwood VFW immediately following.

Irvin D. Renollet    (1926 -2009)

 

SHERWOOD - Irvin D. Renollet, 82 years, of Sherwood, died Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Community Health Partners Inpatient Hospice, rural Defiance. Irvin was born on July 26, 1926 in Paulding County, Ohio, the son of Lewis Dorn and Mae R. (Fockler) Renollet. He was a 1944 graduate of Paulding High School. He married Mary Lou Knisley on September 12, 1947 in Paulding County, Ohio and she survives.

 

Irv began his pursuit of major league baseball and played professionally for three years for the Brooklyn Dodgers organization. He then returned home and was a self-employed farmer for 40 years. Irv was a former volunteer fireman for the village of Sherwood. He was a member of the Sherwood United Methodist Church. He was also a former member of the Sherwood VFW Post 5665 and the Bryan Moose Lodge #1064. Not one to let the grass grow under his feet, Irv was always playing baseball or softball playing well into his 50’s. Irv was very active, coaching little league and pony league baseball teams. He was an avid supporter of his children and grandchildren in their athletic and academic endeavors. As a pastime, Irv enjoyed bowling or golfing.


Surviving is his wife, Mary Lou of Sherwood; four children, Rick (Julie) of Defiance, Ron (Barb) of Defiance, Cheryl (Mike) Bergman of Sherwood and Brent (Tammy) of Defiance; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lewis Dorn “Junior” Renollet of Florida and one sister, Annie Ankney of Paulding. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Theodore.

Conrad A. Mansfield    (1963 - 2009)

 

SHERWOOD - Conrad A. Mansfield, 45 years, of Sherwood, died Monday, June 15, 2009 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, Ohio. Conrad was born on December 29, 1963 in Defiance, Ohio, the son of Gale Lloyd and Ina M. (Olson) Mansfield. He was a 1983 graduate of Fairview High School. He married Mary J. Yoh on December 18, 1994 in Antwerp, Ohio. Conrad was a machinist for Precision Products in Defiance the past 15 years. He was an active member of the Delaware Township Volunteer Fire Department as well as the Sherwood Volunteer Fire Department.

Surviving is his loving wife, Mary of Sherwood; daughter, Patti J. Coressel of Cecil; two grandchildren, Aubrey Sierer and Brody Temple, both of Cecil; His mother, Ina M. Mansfield of Sherwood; one brother, Gale W. (Karen) Mansfield of Defiance; three sisters, Deborah K. (Mel) Smallback of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Olive E. (Edwin) Elston of Payne and Laura J. (Jim) Shaw of Sherwood. His father, Gale and infant brother, Conrad James Mansfield, preceded him in death.

Funeral services for firefighter Conrad A. Mansfield will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2009 at the Delaware Township Fire & Rescue Building 10023 The Bend Road, Defiance, Ohio with Fire Department Chaplain Ned Speiser, officiating. Interment will follow in Wiltsie Cemetery, rural Payne, Ohio. Visitation for Conrad will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Delaware Township Fire & Rescue Building. Delaware Township and Sherwood Fire Departments will conduct a Fireman's Walk Through at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday evening. Robert Allen Eisenhart    (1948 - 2009)

 

SHERWOOD - Robert Allen Eisenhart, 60 years, of rural Sherwood, died suddenly Thursday, March 19, 2009 in his residence. He was born on December 20, 1948 in Columbus, Ohio. He was the son of Harold Lester and Betty Kathryn (Steck) Eisenhart. He was a graduate of Thomas Worthington High School in Columbus and The Ohio State University. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Bob was a history teacher for the Northeastern Local School District (Tinora) for 35 years, retiring in 2007. Bob was the track and cross country coach while at Tinora. He was a member of the Lick Creek Church of the Brethren and the Farmer American Legion #137.
Surviving are his three children, Barry G. Eisenhart of San Francisco, Hollie M. Collins of Columbus and Chad W. Eisenhart of Columbus; one grandson, Calvin Collins; two brothers, Richard Eisenhart of Columbus and Lawrence Eisenhart of Houston. His parents preceded him in death.

Funeral services for Robert Allen Eisenhart will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at Lick Creek Church of the Brethren, 3251 County Road C, Bryan with Dr. Byron Hawbecker, officiating. Patricia Kay Baden    (1948 - 2009)

 

SHERWOOD - Patricia Kay Baden, age 60, of Sherwood, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2009 at St. Vincent’s Mercy Medical Center in Toledo. Pat was a beautician graduating from Warner’s Beauty College. She owned the Country Curl beauty shop for 30 years. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sherwood, the Sherwood Lion’s Club, County Cousins, Living with Cancer Support Group. She was also a Cub Scouts Troop and District leader, a member of the Yankee Motorcycle Club and the National Cosmetology Association. Pat also donated her time as a volunteer at Fairview Elementary School and at the Defiance Regional Medical Center Hospital in Defiance. Pat was also well known in the area as “Peaches the Clown” entertaining area residents for many years with her clowning activities.


Patricia Kay Baden was born March 24, 1948 in Defiance, Ohio, She was the daughter of Lawrence & Kathleen (Gray) Sunday. She married Mark Baden on November 29, 1969 and he survives.

Surviving is her husband Mark of Sherwood; one son Shawn Baden of Dayton, Ohio and two sisters, Barbara Flory of Sherwood and Nancy Jo Sunday of Cecil. She was preceded in death by her parents.
 

A memorial service to celebrate Pat’s life will be held on Friday, February 27, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in St. John Lutheran Church, Sherwood with Rev. Michael Phillips officiating. Visitation for Pat will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2009 from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Burr Funeral Home & Crematory 225 East High Street, Bryan, Ohio.

Larry Allen Whitaker    (1946 - 2009)

 

SHERWOOD - Larry Allen Whitaker, (a.k.a. Superman), age 64, Sherwood, passed away Feb. 15, 2009, at the CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center with his loving children, family and friends by his side. He fought a courageous battle with cancer.

Larry was born in Defiance, July 31, 1946, the son of the late Wilmer "Flick" and Josephine "Jo" (Arndts) Whitaker.

Larry graduated from Tinora High School in 1965. He was hired in General Motors where he retired after 25 years of service. He was a member of the local VFW. Larry was a wonderful and loving, father, grandfather, brother and friend. His most cherished treasure was his family and spending every moment with them was his #1 priority.

Larry is survived by his two daughters, Shelly (Jeff) Welch of Quincy, Mich., and Darcy (Jason) Brown of Defiance; and a son, Terry Smith of Defiance. Also surviving are his brother, William "Bill" (Sarah) Whitaker of Ney; and two sisters Nancy (Steve) Michaels of Ney and Joyce (Jim) Weldon of Sebastian, Fla. Also surviving are his six loving grandchildren, Brett Allen Whitaker, Torrey Dean Belt, Sarah Marie Winzelar, Kirsti Nicole Belt, Courtney Jadyn Brown and Aidan Bailey Smith.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Whitaker and James Allen Whitaker, who died in infancy; and a sister, Shirley (Paul) Grimes.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, in Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, 1753 S. Clinton St. Defiance, Ohio with Rev. Donna Stutzman officiating. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour before services Wednesday at Lawson-Roessner.

Billy Joe Lively    (1940 - 2009)

 

SHERWOOD - Billy Joe Lively, 68, Sherwood, Ohio, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, in CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center.

He was born Nov. 4, 1940, in Ballengee, W.Va., the son of the late William D. and Pearl (Nelson) Lively. On March 3, 1981, "The Ole Goat" was married to his loving wife, "Nanny" Marcie (Scott) Lively, who survives. He was a retired core processor at GM, Defiance, and was a member of UAW Local 211 and a U.S. Navy veteran. He enjoyed his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and special little friends, Ellie and Emma. He also looked forward to NASCAR and Eldora Dirt Track Racing, as well as working in the yard with his girl, Coco.

Also surviving are his son, Billy Joe Matson of Dayton, Ohio; his daughter, Vikki (Marvin) McCoy of Regina, Ky.; eight grandchildren, Zach (Tuff) Matson, Cody Lively Matson, Parker Matson, Tiffany Lively, Nikki Lively, Erika Johnson, Leanna Bingham, and Kelli Warford; his brother, David (Gwen) Lively, and two sisters, Lena (Charles) Gunther and Norma Lee Foreman. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Dale Lively.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, at Mast-Mock-Hoffman-Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, officiated by Rev. Ned Speiser. John Robert Fidler    (1929 - 2009)

 

SHERWOOD - John Robert Fidler, 79, Defiance, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, in CHP-Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center.

He was born Dec. 8, 1929, in Defiance, the son of John and Edith (Jacoby) Fidler. On Jan. 25, 1957, he married Betty L. Grimm, who died May 8, 1994. He was a U.S. Army Sgt.(T) serving in the Korean War. He was an inspector at SK Handtools, worked for Morgan Linen Co. and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and AMVETS Post 1991.

Surviving are a son, John Fidler, Defiance; three daughters, Bonnie (Terry) Brewer of Defiance, Connie (Ted) Seglem of Wichita, Kan., and Tammy (John) Clellan, Paulding; and seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were his parents; a daughter, Cindy Elberson; a brother, Bill Fidler; and two grandchildren, Mendie and Christopher Elberson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, in Mast-Mock-Hoffman-Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home with Rev. Donald Luhring officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery with graveside services by VFW Post 3360 and AMVETS Post 1991. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Marie Sharp    (1936 - 2008)

SHERWOOD - Marie Sharp, 88 years, of Sherwood, died Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance. Marie was born on November 27, 1920 in Peoria, Illinois, the daughter of Floyd and Ruth (McWilliams) Hollis. She married Robert Sharp on July 13, 1936 in Peoria, and he preceded her in death on October 12, 2005.

 
Surviving are her seven sons, Raymond Sharp of Paulding, Robert (Jan) Sharp of Defiance, William (Cindy) Sharp of Sherwood, Jack Sharp of Sherwood, Ronald (Barb) Sharp of Mark Center, Danny (Tabatha) Sharp of Hicksville and James (Tammy) Sharp of Sherwood; seven daughters, Virginia Green of Hicksville, Edith Layne of Sherwood, Judith (Ed) Wisda of Coldwater, Michigan, Marilyn (Ronald) Richards of Defiance, Suzanna (Jack) Carnahan of Defiance, Sharon Linebrink of Hicksville and Betty (Roger) Greear of Sherwood; 46 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Ruth Sharp of Peoria, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert, two daughters, Linda Lou Sharp and Sally Jo Sharp, three granddaughters, two brothers, Raymond and Floyd Hollis, Jr., two sisters, Margie Dwyer and Grace Pepper.

Funeral services and visitation will be private for the family with interment at Sherwood Cemetery. Burr Funeral Home & Crematory, Bryan, Ohio will provide professional services.

Delmar Deloy Brown    (1936 - 2008)

 

SHERWOOD - Delmar Deloy Brown, 72, Sherwood, died at 6:25 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, in Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center.

He was born June 29, 1936, in Mark Center, the son of Dale and Talva (Fickle) Brown. In 1963, he married Judy Miller, who survives. He graduated from Mark Center High School in 1954, and was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1954-1957. He graduated from Defiance College in 1962 with a bachelor's degree in education and taught at Liberty Center Local Schools for a year and Antwerp High School for 35 years. After retiring from teaching, he worked at Dietrich Industries and Dana Corp. and part-time for Defiance County, retiring in 2007. He was a member of Hicksville Eagles Aerie 2556.

Also surviving are a daughter, Darnel Hulbert, Mark Center; a son, John (Jennifer), Hicksville; a brother, James, Hicksville; and two grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Claude; and a sister, Lois Parsons Krouse.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Smith & Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville, with Rev. Tom Graves officiating. Burial will be at Farmer Cemetery. Visitation is from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to services Monday.

Madaline F. Berenyi    (1922 - 2008)

 

SHERWOOD - Madaline F. Berenyi, age 86, of Sherwood, passed away early Saturday morning, August 16, 2008 at Hillside Country Living near Bryan. Mrs. Berenyi was a homemaker and a member of the Sherwood United Methodist Church.
Born May 9, 1922 in Delphos, Ohio, she was the daughter of Frank and Stella (Jenkins) Sims. She married Frank Berenyi on January 10, 1948 and he preceded her in death.

Madaline’s daughter, Julane and husband Robert Jetter of Plainfield, Illinois; sons, Randy Berenyi of Hicksville, Bruce Berenyi of Kensington, New Hampshire and Rick Berenyi of Hicksville; 2 grandchildren; a great grandchild and two sisters Mayry Vaught of Bryan and Fran Nicely of Fowler, Indiana survive. Her parents, husband and brothers, Tom, Marion and Frank Sims; and sisters, Alice Cornell, Ann Geiger, Dorothy Garver and Faye Pretorius preceded her in death.

Funeral services for Madaline Berenyi will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at 2:00pm in the Burr Funeral Home & Crematory of Sherwood with Rev. Kevin Doseck officiating. Burial will follow in Sherwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 18, 2008 from 5:00-8:00pm at the funeral home.

Susan K. Lawson    (1943 - 2008)

 

SHERWOOD - Susan K. Lawson, age 64, of Sherwood, passed away early Tuesday morning, August 5, 2008 at the Community Health Partners Inpatient Hospice of Defiance. Susan had worked at Red Angel Pizza, Sherwood, Pizza Hut in Bryan, Joyce & Sue’s Pizza Which she owned. She had also worked at Dutch Made Cabinetry. Susan attended Sonrise Community Church, Ney, Ohio.
Born September 25, 1943 in Kendallville, Indiana, the daughter of Kenneth and Caroline (Parker) Brady. She married Jimmie L. Lawson on September 26, 1964 at Kendallville, Indiana and he survives.

In addition to her husband Jimmie, Susan is survived by three daughters, Lori and her husband Scott Leichty of Sherwood, Melissa and her husband Richard Burns of Mark Center and Kathy and her husband David Pessefall of Sherwood; seven grandchildren; one brother, Jerry (Sherry) Brady of Kendallville, Indiana; four sisters, Marge Caldwell of LaGrange, Indiana, Nancy (Scott) Becker of Kendallville, Sandy (Jack) Cogan of Kendallville and Diane (Bob) Stergis of Kendallville, Indiana. Her parents and two brothers, Richard and Danny Brady preceded her in death.

A celebration of the life of Susan K. Lawson will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 9, 2008 at the Sonrise Community Church (at the corner of Route 127 and 249) near Ney, Ohio with Rev. Paul Meyers officiating. Burial will follow in Sherwood Cemetery, Sherwood, Ohio. Visitation for Mrs. Lawson will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2008 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and on Friday, August 8, 2008 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Burr Funeral Home & Crematory of Sherwood.

Kenneth R. Rieke    (1928 - 2008)

 

SHERWOOD - Kenneth R. Rieke, 80, died Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice, Defiance.


Born Feb. 9, 1928, in Franklin County, to Vera E. (Harrow) and Ferdinand Rieke, he married Jean A. Johnson on June 6, 1952, and she survives.


He was employed by GM Powertrain, Defiance, retiring in 1983 after 34 1/2 years in plant security. He was a member of Sherwood United Methodist Church, Sherwood Masonic Lodge No. 620 of Defiance and the Eagles Lodge No. 372 of Defiance.


Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, David (and wife, Peggy) Rieke of Ayersville; four daughters, Virginia (and husband, Phil) Combs of Mason, Donna (Mark) Zaharski of Holland, Janet (Don) Stoll of Mundelein, Ill. and Susan (Jeffrey) Rimland of Port Jefferson, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; a brother, William F. Rieke of New Bavaria; and a sister, Helen Heller Andrews of Oakwood. He was preceded in death by his parents.


Visitation will be Sunday from 2-8 p.m. and Monday from noon until 1 p.m. in the Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding. A Masonic service will be held Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be Monday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with Jim Stinehelfer Jr. to officiate. Burial will be in Sherman Cemetery, Oakwood.

DeLoss C. Dangler    (1933 - 2008)

 

SHERWOOD - DeLoss C. Dangler Sr., 75, Sherwood, and formerly of Edgerton, died Thursday, June 12, 2008, at Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center.

He was born Jan. 8, 1933, in Fort Wayne, the son of DeLoss and Nina "Jo" (Blue) Dangler. In 1952, he married Dolores Thiel and they were divorced. In 1988, he married Lucille (Yenser) Schmunk, who died in 2004. He was a graduate of Edgerton High School and a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a machinist at Ohio Art Co. and Williams County Airport. He was a licensed commercial airplane pilot and had built two airplanes. He attended Bethel Forder Bridge United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his mother, Edgerton; six daughters, Darlene (Rick) Kimpel of Hicksville, Dawn (Robert) Brown of Bryan, DeAnn (Odie) Mearse of Edon, Denise (Robert) Knecht and Deborah of Edgerton and Mickie (Greg) Butler, Sherwood; four sons, DeLoss (Sandy) Dangler Jr. and Douglas (Rebecca) Dangler of Edgerton, Charles (Beverly) Schmunk of Sherwood and James (Tammie) Schmunk, Wauseon; four sisters, Nancy Lirot of Seattle, Wash., Patricia (Doug) Gruber of Fort Wayne, Diane Best of Blakeslee and Shirley (Gary) Lehmann, Bryan; two brothers, Larry (Donna) of Bryan and Denny (Vada), Angola, Ind.; and 28 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death was his father.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Burr Funeral Home & Crematory, Sherwood, with his son, Pastor Charles Schmunk, officiating. Burial will be in Sherwood Cemetery with military honors accorded by Sherwood VFW Post 5665. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to services Monday.

Marie Dickey    (1912 - 2008)

 

SHERWOOD - Marie Dickey, 95 years, of Sherwood, died Friday, June 6, 2008 at Harborside Healthcare of Northwest Ohio, Bryan, where she had been a resident the past two weeks. Marie was a member of the Sherwood United Methodist Church. She had been a homemaker all her life.

 
Marie Dickey was born on November 7, 1912, in Mark Township, Defiance County, Ohio, the daughter of Albert and Mary (Shifferly) Sohn. She married Adrian Dickey on November 10, 1932 in Mark Township, Defiance County, Ohio, and he preceded her in death on January 14, 2001.

Surviving are her two daughters, Mary Rosebrock of Sherwood and Thelma Nearing of Sherwood; one son, Ernest (Ginny) Dickey of Cecil, Ohio; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, four step great-grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and one step great great grandson. Her husband, one son, Lee Dickey, granddaughter, Brenda Dickey, grandson, Edward Rosebrock, two brothers, Sam & Henry Sohn and one sister Elizabeth Dickey, preceded her in death.

Funeral services for Marie Dickey will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2008 in the Burr Funeral Home & Crematory, Sherwood with Ned Speiser, officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Cemetery, Sherwood, Ohio. Visitation for Mrs. Dickey will be held on Sunday, June 8, 2008 from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
